Additional Care

The following recommendations are things you can do to help prevent your dog’s exposure to grass allergens:

  • Keep your dog off freshly mown grass.

  • Stop using shampoos, as these include perfumes, and detergents dry the skin.

  • Keep your lawns short to cut off kikuyu and paspalum pollen/seed heads and collect clippings.

  • Keep them away from paspalum grass seed heads.

  • Dogs are also allergic to the Tradescantia plant.

  • If you are going into long grass, put some coconut oil on their potential rash areas, to act as a barrier.

  • Keep toenails short and filed (electric files work well).

  • Keep your dog cool.

November, December, January, February, and March are the worst months for grass allergies - stick with it.

Other things to consider are gut health and general immune support.
